Difference between Store bought potatoes and Ours.

1. Store bought potatoes are washed, cleaned and this starts the breakdown process.

2. Then a chemical is sprayed on them so the potatoes won't sprout.

3. They are put in clear bags and the light turns them green and bitter.

Mound Valley Farm Potatoes

1. Freshly Harvested with the dirt still on them helps them store longer.

2. They are not sprayed with any chemical.

3.  The dark brown sack with holes in it keeps the light off of the potato. Also, the holes help with ventilation.

*What is the best way to store potatoes so they last until Spring?

*First..If you see a wet spot on the bag, that means there is a rotten potato.  Remove the potato immediately so it doesn't spoil the rest of the potatoes

*Store in the coldest place you have.  Usually it's the garage as the fall nights are getting colder.  But, if your cold storage is colder in the fall, store there.

In the winter, store in the garage against the house wall.  If the temperatures get below freezing put a warm blanket over potatoes.

*Keep the bag closed at all times so the daylight doesn't get on potatoes.  The light will cause the potatoes on top to turn green and bitter.
