Critical Life Skills Coffee Cart (Colt Brew)

The Critical Life Skills Coffee Cart is a student-run vocational training program operated by students with Extensive Support Needs at James Logan High School. Through this program, students practice real-world job skills aligned directly with their IEP transition goals, including vocational training, money skills, and customer service.

The Coffee Cart is part of the Critical Life Skills curriculum, which focuses on transition areas such as employability skills, independent living skills, language development, and social communication. Students rotate through different roles such as greeter, cashier, snack attendant, and cart runner, gaining hands-on experience with workplace expectations and teamwork.

An exciting part of the program is the Colt Brew brand, whose logo was created through a collaboration between students in the Critical Life Skills program and Gabriel Garsain (Class of 2027). This partnership highlights the inclusive spirit of James Logan High School and shows how students across programs can work together to create something meaningful for the community.

Proceeds from the Coffee Cart help fund Community-Based Instruction (CBI) experiences. These trips allow students to practice important life and social skills in real-world environments such as stores, restaurants, entertainment centers, and other community locations. During these outings, students learn how to be safe, respectful, and responsible while navigating community spaces and accessing local resources.

Funds raised through this campaign will also help purchase snacks, beverages, gloves, aprons, and other supplies needed to operate the cart and continue providing authentic vocational learning experiences for our students.
