Bonneville Speech and Debate

On behalf of the Bonneville High School Speech and Debate Team, we are reaching out to invite you to support our upcoming season. Speech and Debate is an academic sport that provides students with indispensable life skills, including critical thinking, rigorous research, persuasive public speaking, and lasting self-confidence. By challenging students to analyze complex issues, construct logical arguments, and listen respectfully to diverse perspectives, our program prepares young leaders to navigate real-world challenges with poise and integrity.

The academic and personal benefits of speech and debate are well-documented. Research from the University of Utah highlights that high school debaters are 70% more likely to graduate, three times less likely to drop out, 70% more likely to reach ACT College Readiness benchmarks in reading, and score 25% higher on college-level literacy tests than non-debating peers. Furthermore, three-quarters of debate participants go on to attend four-year colleges. Beyond test scores and graduation rates, the team fosters a supportive environment where students gain the confidence to express their ideas and engage meaningfully with their communities.

Due to recent budget cuts at the state and district levels, funding for our program has been significantly reduced. To ensure every interested student can participate regardless of financial circumstances, we are raising $5,000 to cover essential operational costs for our team of 25 student competitors. Your contribution directly funds tournament entry fees, transportation, meals, and event hosting expenses.

We invite both individual community members and corporate partners to join us in supporting these talented students. Here is how your donation directly impacts our program and benefits your sponsorship:

• $100 Donation: Your name or company name will be prominently displayed on our team banner at the State Speech and Debate Tournament.

• $250 Donation: Sponsors an individual student's fees and travel for the entire season, or covers travel costs for a full tournament trip.

• $500 Donation: Covers food expenses for the team throughout the season AND features your name and business logo on our official State Tournament banner.

• $1,000 Donation: Fully sponsors one of the two tournaments hosted by Bonneville High School this year.
