Support Valkyrie Wrestling
This is Valkyrie Wrestling.
We as a school and coaching staff are dedicated to the construction of an elite women's wrestling program.
We are seeking to build a program for the young women at Pleasant Grove High that will develop character and resiliency, create lasting and valuable social relationships, and produce athletes capable and motivated to take advantage of the wrestling opportunities at the next level.
Women's wrestling is among the fastest growing sports in the world, and opportunities to excel both in and out of school, as well as post high school have become more prevalent. Women's wrestling scholarships are the most unfiled scholarship opportunity in the country. In 2021 nearly 70% off these opportunities went unfilled.
Women's wrestling has only been sanctioned in the state of Utah since the 2020-2021 season. Schools have been adopting the sport but usually under the Men's wrestling umbrella and not as its own entity. At Pleasant Grove High we have committed ourselves to developing the Women's program as its own unique entity and have proudly adopted the Valkyrie moniker to represent us.
In order for Valkyrie wrestling to succeed we need funding, the school and district can only offer so much help, and that help is a great starting point, but is not enough to build a program from the ground up. This is why we need you. Among many other things we are seeking donations in order to begin building a unique identity, the culture, and the quality of our program.
Funds raised would be for the following:
Identity:
- Signage and Banners: In order to distinguish the program from the Men's program and build the Identity of Valkyrie wrestling in the community we need to make our logo and athletes visible, we aim to do this by:
- Putting up signage in our wrestling room unique to the Valkyrie wrestling program
- Putting up signage in our school unique to the Valkyrie wrestling program
- Putting up signage in the community unique to the Valkyrie wrestling program
(signage would include flags, yard signs for both the team and individual athletes , banners for both team and athletes, and vinyl wall signs advertising the team)
Culture:
- Tradition: Good culture is not an accident. It is intentionally built, and though most of this we can do without funding there are a few things we would like to do to enhance and focus our efforts.
- Signage for our core values (based on the the 15 lessons found in the book "Legacy" by James Kerr each of our wrestlers read and discuss this book each season)
- Team building activities outside the wrestling room
- Inclusion (Wrestling is an expensive sport when pursued with passion, we want to provide that opportunity to each of our athletes some of which need a little help subsidizing their participation and tournament fees)
Quality:
- Equipment and Training: Building quality athletes in a wrestling program is greatly assisted by quality equipment and training opportunities, we have some needs we need help with.
- Training: Practice time is limited and we need to be able to make the most of it. This requires multiple coaches that are qualified to teach the sport. As a program we are given funding to pay a head coach and one assistant, we would like to bring in at least one more.
- Equipment: As a program we have access to some amazing facilities, but we would love to add some specialized equipment such as Fan bikes and Rowers to assist with cardiovascular training.
- Safety: We are highly concerned with the safety of our athletes, as we develop athleticism in our wrestlers (many of whom come without any athletic experience) some specialized equipment such as fall mats, and concussion prevention head gear (kind of like a padded helmet for practice) would be extremely helpful in protecting our young women.
We strongly believe in being responsible with the funds we receive and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for your financial support it means everything to us as a team and organization.
