What happens if a buyer disputes a charge?

A dispute, or chargeback, is when a buyer asks their bank to reverse a charge. It’s different from a refund request, and a no-refund policy can’t stop it.

Most disputes are a misunderstanding. The buyer didn’t recognize the charge, or a family member made the purchase.

What happens

  1. The campaign owner gets an email with the amount, the buyer’s contact information, and a deadline.
  2. SuccessFund also emails the buyer and asks them to confirm the charge. If they recognize it, they can withdraw the dispute with their bank.
  3. If the dispute is withdrawn, or the bank decides in the campaign’s favor, nothing changes.
  4. If it isn’t withdrawn by the deadline, the money goes back to the buyer.

What it costs

Only the amount of the original charge, which comes out of your upcoming payouts. It is never charged to your bank account.

What you can do

Reach out to the buyer before the deadline. A quick, friendly message is the best way to get a dispute withdrawn. If something looks like real fraud, email support@successfund.com before the deadline.
